NOTIFICATION RE: RE-OPENING GUIDELINES

To all Ontario-based Badminton Clubs:

The sport of Badminton has been included on the Ontario government’s Detailed List of Stage 1 Openings as an “individual sport competition without spectators” that may be re-opened on Tuesday May 19th, 2020.

The Detailed List indicates:

Professional and amateur sport activity for individual/single competitors, including training and competition conducted by a recognized Provincial Sport Organization, National Sport Organization, or recognized national Provincial training centres (e.g., Canadian Sport Institute Ontario) with return to play protocols in place and no spectators, except for an accompanying guardian for a person under the age of 18 years

Upon further clarification, we have been reminded that the Ontario Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act legislation has not yet been updated to release details surrounding direction to the businesses in the Detailed List of Stage 1 Openings.  As such, Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario does not sanction nor approve training or competition for any participant until the legislation has been updated.

Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario also reminds all member clubs and registered individuals, that all activities must adhere to the Quarantine Act (Canada), Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (Ontario), as well as any municipal bylaws and facility rules in place related to COVID-19 physical distancing and public or private gatherings.  Failure to abide by these federal, provincial, or municipal requirements may result in legal prosecution by government as well as denial of insurance coverage by Badminton Ontario and possible Badminton Ontario and Badminton Canada disciplinary measures.

Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario will continue to provide updates as part of our commitment to a safe return to play and training for all.

Respectfully,

Joe Morissette                                                                  Jean Wong
