September 26, 2017 – The Progress Recreation Centre played host to the first tournament of the Black Knight Badminton Ontario Jr. HP Series. The first tournament of the season saw 83 athletes from different clubs from around the province compete in U11, U13, and U17 matches.
THE 17.18 BLACK KNIGHT BADMINTON ONTARIO JR A HP SEASON STARTS OFF WITH A BANG AT THE PROGRESS RECREATION CENTRE

SCARBOROUGH – September 26, 2017 – The Progress Recreation Centre played host to the first tournament of the Black Knight Badminton Ontario Jr. HP Series. The first tournament of the season saw 83 athletes from different clubs from around the province compete in U11, U13, and U17 matches.
Katy Wong, an athlete who competes in the U13 age category and who trains out of the Su Badminton Club took some time before her match on Sunday to sit down with Badminton Ontario and speak about the level of competition that she has seen over the weekend.
“It is really fun competing against other athletes that I haven’t competed against before, because of that the matches have been harder. With this increased level of competition, it has made me improve my game through my training methods and practices.”
Last season’s U13 Female Athlete of the Year Katy, expressed her short and long term goals for the future. Touted as one to watch, Katy displayed a high level of maturity for a woman of her age. She has recognized what she needs to improve, to up her game to stay competitive in her age category.
“I have many goals but for this season but my main goal is to increase my overall player ranking to an even greater standing then last season. I also want to gain much more experience so that I can learn from those experiences and become a better player. I know I have to improve on my in-game focus and with the help of my coaches, I know I will be able to reach my future goals in representing Canada at the Olympic Games.”
All the male and female athletes who participated this weekend, played very intense matches as each of them competed to earn their first medal of the new season. The competition is only set to intensify through out each series event in the calendar year. The athlete below is the Triple Crown Winner of the weekend:
