TEAM CANADA TAKES GOLD IN DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES AT A STRONG PAN AM CHAMPIONSHIPS SHOWING
HAVANA, CUBA — May 3, 2017— The top athletes from across the America’s gathered in Havana, Cuba last weekend at the annual Pan Am Championships. Team Canada took a strong contention of athletes from across the country to compete and they did not disappoint. Team Canada fought and played hard against some tough opponents but came out strong as they earned a place on the podium in four out of the five disciplines being played that weekend. Not only was an achievement earned, there were three all Canadian final match ups, which showcases our growth in an International level. Results have been posted for your convenience.

Women’s Singles:
Rachel Honderich – Gold (Ontario)
Brittany Tam – Silver (Ontario)
Men’s Doubles:
Jason Ho-Sue / Nyl Yakura – Gold (Ontario)
Austin Bauer / Ty Lindeman – Silver
Women’s Doubles:
Michelle Tong (Ontario) / Josephine Wu – Gold
Anne-Julie Beaulieu / Stephanie Pakenham – Bronze
Mixed Doubles:
Toby Ng / Rachel Honderich (Ontario) – Gold
Nyl Yakura / Brittney Tam – Silver (Ontario)
Badminton Ontario would like to congratulate all the Team Canada athletes on a very strong showing in Havana. We would like to especially congratulate all the Ontario athletes especially on representing our province proudly in such an international event. The next major Pan Am Badminton competition will be held this summer in Markham. The 2017 Pan Am Junior Badminton Championships are coming back to Canada from, July 21st-28th. The best junior athletes from across the Americas will make their way for a tournament that will surely display badminton’s future Olympians.
Badminton Ontario (BON) is a not for profit amateur sport organization responsible for badminton within the province of Ontario. Badminton Ontario’s vision is to connect with all athletes participating in badminton in Ontario, inspire athletes to cherish badminton and establish it as their sport for life.
