Sadasivan Awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers

Asokan Sadasivan, BON official, is awarded Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteer from the Governor General of Canada.

Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers recognizes exceptional volunteer achievements from across the country or abroad in a wide range of fields from the Governor General of Canada.

Asokan Sadasivan has been a Volunteer with Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) since the year he arrived in Canada in 2001 and he continues to volunteer with them.

He has registered his Temple with the CVITP program and is the coordinator for the temple, which is one of the few organizations that provides this service throughout the year. In addition, he volunteers at a multitude of other organizations, The Compass, Bramalea Community Centre, senior residences, etc. At the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture not only does he assist them, but also mentors and guides other volunteers in preparing tax returns.

In addition, he has been the Treasurer for the United Way and Federated Health charities annual campaigns of his employer since the time he started with them in 2005. He is also the Treasurer of one of his community organisations. He is the internal auditor of his Badminton Club and at another of his community organisations. All voluntary.

In the past, he has also done stints as a mentor for new immigrants by volunteering with various organizations that provide this service. He was also the founder Treasurer for Habitat for Humanity Brampton when it was starting out in 2002.
