Ontario’s best junior Badminton players compete in the Junior A Provincial Championships this weekend at the Pan Am Centre in Markham

This weekend from Friday April 21st to Sunday April 23rd Ontario’s best junior badminton players will compete for Provincial champion titles at the Black Knight Badminton Ontario Junior A Championships at the Markham Pan Am Centre. 209 Players representing 16 clubs in the U11-U19 categories will be competing for gold.

Last year’s championships saw three athletes capture the title of Triple Crown winner in their respective age categories, meaning they won gold in three different disciplines. . These athletes were Jasmine Shi (U11 KCBC), Sharon Au (U15 KCBC), and Colin Jia (U15 E Badminton). Are these athletes competing again this year? It would be good to embed a link to the tournament software draws page so that people can see the draws.
All three of these athletes have been placed in the draw, and will be competing again this year as they look to retain their championships. For many of these athletes, these Provincial Championships are a final tune up for the Junior/U23 National Championships in Moncton NB (May 15-20). The next major Badminton competition at the Markham Pan Am Centre will be the 2017 Pan Am Junior Badminton Championships, July 21-28th.

The competition will begin at 9:30 AM sharp on Friday. Athletes and Coaches are reminded to come to the venue early and be prepared to compete when your match called. A reminder that only Canadian citizens or those with landed immigrant status of 12 months or more are eligible to participate in the Ontario Junior A Championships. Athletes will be asked to show proof of citizenship/landed immigrant status and their Badminton Ontario Player Registration card at the registration desk before the tournament begins.

Admission is free this weekend for the Junior A Championships, so come and cheer on all the athletes as they put all their training and hard work into action.
