Ian Moss (Ottawa) returns as President of the Association for his second two-year term, as does Martha Deacon (Kitchener) as Director of High Performance, Benedict Menachery (Thunder Bay) as Director at Large and Jeff Sum (Toronto) as Director of Finance. Stepping down from the Board is Vincent Wong (Toronto), Director at Large and Teresa Prevoe (Toronto), Director of Finance.
MOSS RE-ELECTED AS BADMINTON ONTARIO PRESIDENT AT ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Badminton Ontario Annual General Meeting was held in Toronto on June 10/11th, with the membership supporting the election of four returning individuals to the Badminton Ontario Board of Directors. Ian Moss (Ottawa) returns as President of the Association for his second two-year term, as does Martha Deacon (Kitchener) as Director of High Performance, Benedict Menachery (Thunder Bay) as Director at Large and Jeff Sum (Toronto) as Director of Finance. Stepping down from the Board is Vincent Wong (Toronto), Director at Large and Teresa Prevoe (Toronto), Director of Finance.
“I want to thank Vincent and Teresa for their excellent commitment to our Board activities over the past few years – in particular, they have both been very instrumental in strengthening our internal financial controls and our external financial reporting protocols” said Moss, adding “with our returning and existing Board members, we have a solid governance group to lead an aggressive growth platform for Badminton Ontario over the next number of years”.
The two day AGM weekend saw constructive dialogue between the Board and the seven District Presidents, with outcomes including the approval of a new Strategic Plan for Badminton in Ontario, a new membership affiliation fee structure, good input into the 17/18 Provincial competition structure, presentations on Badminton’s role as a new Special Olympics and Paralympic sport, and initial dialogue on the construction of a perpetual sport development fund that will assist Districts in targeted participation and competition growth needs. The weekend also included the annual Badminton Ontario Awards Gala, celebrating the exceptional performances of athletes, coaches and volunteers who contribute to the strength of the sport and association in Ontario.
“We are very fortunate to have a strong base of engagement and interest from Ontarian’s for the sport of badminton, and it is our responsibility as the leaders in the sport to continue to grow that interest” said Moss, “our new Strategic Plan recognizes our role as a leading Province for the sport both in terms of participation and profile – our Plan focuses on building out new opportunities to nurture the growth of the game in Ontario and to increase the interest to the public for the sport through a multi-year international competition hosting strategy. We are thrilled that we are hosting the 2017 Pan Am Junior Championships in July and to have recently been awarded the 2018 World Junior Badminton Championships – these are examples of our leading-edge approach to positioning the sport and Ontario on the world stage to facilitate stronger public interest and to further the development of our elite level players and coaches. We also have a great responsibility to grow the game in all parts of the Province and we are excited that our District representatives show the same level of enthusiasm that our Board has in terms of the potential for growth for this sport – our new Strategic Plan is focused on growth and development, so we look forward to an exciting number of years ahead for this organization” added Moss.
