Jr Regional #1C – Public Notice

Badminton Community,

Badminton Ontario would like to address the issue that occurred at the Jr Regional #1C from September 17th to 18th.  Despite the tournament running smoothly, our setup of the Tournament Planner system did not properly filter the age categories on registration as per the age group criteria of Badminton Ontario. This resulted in players competing in the incorrect age group. The issue was brought to the attention of the tournament referee and staff near the end of the tournament; however, changes could not be made at the time. As a result, Badminton Ontario’s President, Staff, and Competitions Committee held a meeting to discuss a possible remedy. Many possible solutions were discussed and, ultimately, a perfect solution did not present itself. This resulted in the eventual decision not to award ranking points for this tournament in all events and age categories; as well as running another Jr C tournament soon. Players who participated in the Jr #1C tournament will be presented with an early registration option, followed by general registration one week later.

We recognize this solution is not perfect and will not satisfy everyone, however, it was eventually decided it was the fairest option.

On behalf of Badminton Ontario, I would like to apologize for this error and any inconvenience this has caused our families and participants. As our new office staff become more accustomed to our tools, policies and procedures, we will strive toward improving and making every effort to learn from our mistakes, which is all anyone can do in these situations.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Your participation in Badminton Ontario events is greatly appreciated.

President, Badminton Ontario
