The Federation of Badminton Clubs (FBC) is registered under the Province of Ontario as a not-for-profit organization that develops and delivers grassroots programs to service the badminton community. FBC is managed by elected volunteer Board of Directors. Our mission is to build a sustainable structure under Badminton Ontario and to bring linkage between all Badminton Clubs. Our immediate mandate is to implement Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) programs utilizing our Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) (1) Grant. FBC also operates as the York District Badminton Association (YDBA).

Description of Position:

The Technical Director (TD) of Programs is responsible for the development and management of FBC’s programs and services. The TD will create a strategic plan utilizing the OTF Grant – this includes delivering LTAD programs for all ages and abilities & delivering coaching programs to develop potential instructors. The TD will also lead projects which may involve working in team environments with diverse groups of staff and volunteers. Developing partnerships and collaborative relationships with community stakeholders through active promotion and management of FBC events are also integral roles of the TD.

The TD will be responsible for details in connection with the operation and maintenance of the various programs. Involvement and implementation of the programs will require both participative and supervisory functions. The TD will develop and deliver a comprehensive training manual that leverages the LTAD model as well as train instructors to achieve NCCP certifications. Youth training programs are anticipated to start in October (Sundays and possibility a couple of week nights) with the possibility winter & summer camps. Mentoring instructors and develop of youth badminton players to remain active within the sport throughout their lives are key components of the overall program.

Key Accountabilities

• The Technical Director of Programs reports to the FBC VP with oversight by the Board of Directors

• Responsible for the implementation of policies and the overall daily management of FBC’s badminton programs • Works directly with Board of Directors, coaches, district associations, Badminton Ontario, Badminton Canada, members, and volunteers to support and deliver FBC’s programs and services

• Works with the Board of Directors to review and develop strategic plans to guide the organization

• Establishes short and medium term goals for the organization in conjunction with the deliverables as defined in the OTF Agreement • Develops and executes training programs under LTAD model

• Instructs training programs for youth and adults in partnership with the Head Coach

• Implementation of FBC Strategic Plan to certified 50 NCCP certified coaches over a period of four years

• Creates a sustainable supply of certified instructors to meet the continuous demand for training at all ages and skill levels. (Trained instructors will in turn train the next generation/wave of potential instructors)

• Implementation of new programs – training programs for all ages & skill levels, seniors program, and youth training programs, in partnership with the Head Coach

• Manages all aspects of junior coach development and evaluations, in partnership with the Head Coach

• Provides leadership and mentorship to coaches and players

• Maintains relationships with community groups, clubs and its members

• Continues to foster family recreational badminton as well as meet the growing demands of the community for the sport of badminton • Assists with the management of program development, tournaments, special events and budgets • Maintains official records and documents, and ensure compliance with FBC’s constitution

• Carries out the organization’s administration requirements to include training schedules, documentation, filings and other related duties as assigned

• Assists with the development of policies, procedures, operating and guidelines

• Acts as liaison between Badminton Ontario and the Ministry of Sports, Municipalities, School

• Boards and other PSOs on all aspects of the development and delivery of programs and services

• Attends FBC Board Meetings as needed

Essential Qualifications:

• Post-secondary diploma/degree sport administration/management, related discipline or equivalent experience • Minimum NCCP Level 1 certification • Experience in grassroots programs

• Thorough knowledge of the amateur sport system demonstrated through working experience with Provincial, National or Multi Sport Organizations • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends

• Submit to & pass Police Record/Screening Check

• Strong interpersonal skills- ability to work with and engage youths

• Expertise and knowledge in conflict resolution • Robust negotiating and communication skills

• Strong event management skills • Solid organizational, written and oral communication skills

• Adequate computer skills- working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) • Able to travel to various training locations, meetings, events and tournaments throughout Ontario

Compensation:

Salary: $40-$50/hr (projected annual salary based on the full roll out of all programs is $28K-$35K)

• Candidates are required to submit a complete resume outlining their accomplishments and work experiences (covering a minimum of 2 years history)

• Candidates are required to prepare a letter outlining how they will implement a strategic 2-4 years plan under the OTF Agreement. This should include delivering LTAD programs to 500 players for all ages and ability, and deliver a coaching program to developed 30 potential instructors
