How are points calculated?
Ranking points are the sum of a player’s/pair’s top four results in any discipline (with the same partner, where applicable) over a 52-week period.
How do I know what age category to register for?
Age categories are based on your year of birth. Please use the following reference for the 2026-27 season (includes start and end date):
- U9: Born between January 1st, 2019 and December 31st, 2020
- U11: Born between January 1st, 2017 and December 31st, 2018
- U13: Born between January 1st, 2015 and December 31st, 2016
- U15: Born between January 1st, 2013 and December 31st, 2014
- U17: Born between January 1st, 2011 and December 31st, 2012
- U19: Born between January 1st, 2009 and December 31st, 2010
Can I play up or down age categories?
Players are not permitted to play down an age category. Players can compete in one age category older than theirs. Players wishing to play more than one age category older than theirs, will require approval by the Competitions Committee. U9 athletes will always require approval from the Competitions Committee to play up any age category.
What does it mean if I am on the Reserve List?
If you are on the Reserve List it means that the event you have signed up for is currently full. Most of our draws are capped at either 32 or 48 players, depending on the size of the venue. Once we reach capacity, all other players who register will be placed on the Reserve List.
If a player in the Main draw withdraws for any reason before the start of the tournament, players will be contacted in the order they fall on the Reserve List. If on the day of a tournament a player is injured and unable to compete in a later event, we may see if any players from the Reserve List are at the tournament and able to fill the spot.
If you remain on the Reserve List, you will receive a full refund for that event, following the completion of the tournament.
What do I wear to a tournament? What do I need to bring?
All athletes must supply their own equipment and ensure they are in uniform for competition. The following list is required:
- Badminton racquet
- Indoor court shoes
- Short sleeve shirt
- Shorts that fall above the athlete’s knee
- Goggles (prescription glasses are not permitted as appropriate eye protection. Athletes must wear goggles over their prescription glasses).
Your club may provide you with a uniform to war at tournaments. Please ensure that all water bottles have a lid that can be sealed tightly. No open cups will be permitted on the field of play.

How do I submit a partner request?
- All partner requests must be completed at the time of registration. No email requests will be accepted.
- For pairings to be accepted, both players must agree by submitting the request through the registration portal.
- If the partner you requested does not register, is found ineligible, or requests another partner, you will be paired with another player on a first come first serve basis.
What does it mean to “default”?
If a player withdraws from any event(s) after the draws have been published or fails to appear for any scheduled match, they will be automatically withdrawn from the remainder of the tournament. For doubles or mixed doubles, if one player in the pair withdraws, their partner(s) will not be penalized.
Refunds will not be provided to players that fail to appear for any scheduled match and have been withdrawn from the tournament.
I withdrew from the tournament before the withdrawal deadline. When will I receive my refund?
All refunds will be processed the week following the completion of the tournament.
When will the tournament schedule be released?
The scheduled draws will be posted to the tournament website by 11:59pm the Tuesday before the tournament. It is a player’s responsibility to check the schedule and find out when their matches are scheduled for.
How do I know if I am eligible for a tournament?
Tournament eligibility will be determined using the Ontario rankings generated the Monday before tournament registration opens. The tournament information found on our event calendar will reference which Ontario rankings will be used to determine eligibility.
The tournament regulations will state the maximum amount of points an athlete can have in order to compete in each specific tournament.
I have registered for a tournament but I cannot see my name online.
Thanks for registering! Tournament Software does not automatically upload entries to the tournament website. One of our Tournament Coordinators needs to manually pull entries and upload them to the website. So not to worry if you don’t instantly see your name.
If it has been 3 business days or more and you still do not see your name reflected on the tournament website, please reach out to the coordinator to ensure your registration was completed in full.
Can U9 play an older age category?
Players in the U9 age category are unable to play older age categories as BON must adhere to the Long Term Athletic Development mandated by the Ministry of Tourism, Sport, and Culture (MTSC).
Can athletes that reside in other provinces participate in BON events?
Yes, out of province athletes may participate in BON events. They are expected to meet the same criteria as Ontario athletes:
- Be in good standing with their provincial organization
- Have the appropriate BON membership
*note: out province athletes are not allowed to participate in Provincial championships as they are closed tournaments and requires residence within Ontario for the previous 12 months and requires a Canadian citizenship or PR status.
How does the Competition Committee determine the length of a suspension?
The Competition Committee uses the following framework for determining the length of the suspension related to Tournament Rules and Regulations and Code of Conduct and Ethical Policy.
- First incident = 6 events
- Second incident = 12 events
- Third incident = 24 events + hearing
*Note: The Competition Committee may add an additional requirement (e.g. Respect in Sport training) as necessary
