CONGRATULATIONS! BRIAN YANG ON WINNING 2018 YOG GOLD MEDAL Badminton Ontario Congratulates Brian Yang on Winning Youth
Olympics Gold Medal!

October 16, 2018

(Toronto, Ontario) Badminton Ontario congratulates Richmond Hill’s own Brian Yang on winning a gold medal in the mixed team relay competition at the ongoing 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Yang was part of an international team named Team Alpha. The team consisted of eight junior athletes (four boys and four girls) representing three continents. Brian played an important part of his team’s success by contributing 30 of the 110 points the team needed to win. In the end, Team Alpha beat Team Omega 110-106 in the final. Yang’s gold medal marked the first Olympic badminton medal for Canada. In fact, along with bronze medalist Jaqueline Lima of Brazil, Yang was also the first athlete from the Pan American region to win an Olympic badminton medal.

Brian’s Coach was happy with the effort displayed by him, “it was my athlete, Brian, and I’s first time participating in the Youth Olympics. I am extremely satisfied at his performance as an athlete as well as the character he displayed as a person. He showed me that he has grown and matured each and every time we travel together to pursue a new tournament. While it was frustrating to me that he was injured right before the tournament, I was happy that he was still able to successfully challenge some of the best athletes from around the world”.

Yang will now turn his attention to the Li-Ning BWF World Junior Badminton Championships to be held at Markham’s Pan Am Centre between November 5th and 18th. Yang will lead team Canada into the competition and will look to win the country’s first ever World Junior Badminton Championships medal.

Tickets are now available for the Li-Ning BWF World Junior Badminton Championships 2018, and can be purchased here.
