Eligibility

Badminton Ontario Eligibility for 2020-2021 season:

1.       Athlete Participation

1.1.     Athlete eligibility for the 2020-2021 season is as follows:
1.1.1.   U11: born in 20011 or later
1.1.2.   U13: born in 2009 or later
1.1.3.   U15: born in 2007 or later
1.1.4.   U17: born in 2005 or later
1.1.5.   U19: born in 2003 or later

For every age group, the year stated is the birth year. For example, if you turn 18 on or after January 1st, 2021, you are eligible to play in the U19 division.  

*Athletes must be a member of a badminton club affiliated with Badminton Ontario. All athletes must be a 2020-2021 season Badminton Ontario cardholder (Performance A, Competitive B, P/T Regional C, P/T Masters).

2.    Restriction of ‘A’ Players

2.1  The following players, as of the most recent Badminton Ontario Ranking System are restricted from entering a Junior (B) Series event:
– U13: top male & female players with 3,500 or more points in any one event (singles, doubles, or mixed) at the time registration closes are ineligible to play in the Jr B-Circuit
– U15: top male & female players with 3,500 or more points in any one event (singles, doubles, or mixed) at the time registration closes are ineligible to play in the Jr B-Circuit
– U17: top male & female players with 3,500 or more points in any one event (singles, doubles, or mixed) at the time registration closes are ineligible to play in the Jr B-Circuit
– U19: top male & female players with 3,500 or more points in any one event (singles, doubles, or mixed) at the time registration closes are ineligible to play in the Jr B-Circuit

3.       Championship Eligibility

3.1 Athletes can only participate in one (1) Ontario Junior Championship per season.

3.2 U13/15/17/19 Athletes must attain a minimum of 3,500 Ontario ranking points in any one discipline to qualify for the Ontario Junior HP A Championships.
3.3 Athletes qualifying for any one discipline will allow them to register for all remaining disciplines.
3.4 U11 Athletes have no ranking qualification restrictions to qualify for the Ontario Jr HP A Championships. 
3.5 ON Jr Championships will only allow Canadian citizens or Ontario Permanent Residence (with a minimum of 12-month residency in Ontario from the date of the Championship). Participants will be asked for Government Issued ID (Canadian Passport/ Birth Certificate/ Citizenship or Ontario PR to verify)
