Team Ontario Trials (CWG) Summary

This past weekend (Dec 19-21) saw Ontario’s top badminton players congregate at E-Badminton in Markham for the Canada Winter Games trials.  The athletes were competing for five men’s and five women’s positions to make up the team that will travel to Prince George, BC, from February 21 until March 1st, 2015.

Twenty-one players were in attendance, competing in high-level round-robin groups to determine the winners of each event.  This meant a TON of very competitive matches in a short span of time.  That being said, the players were gladiators, and battled through, despite being sore and tired by the end of the weekend.

Final placements:

Women’s Singles

Brittney Tam

Rachel Honderich

Men’s Singles

Andrew D’Souza

Jason Ho-Shue

Women’s Doubles

Rachel Honderich / Danica Lau

Vivian Kwok / Qufei Chen

Men’s Doubles

Nyl Yakura / Joshua Hurlburt-Yu

Andrew Lau / Jason Ho-Shue

Mixed Doubles

Nyl Yakura / Brittney Tam

Joshua Hurlburt-Yu / Rachel Honderich

The team will be selected soon and announced on Dec. 24th

We are hoping to continue our Team Ontario winning-streak at the Games.  Ontario overall has always done VERY well at the Canada Winter Games, being the strongest province in 21 out of 23 Games...  It is our plan to stay professional and do our best to achieve this goal once again, representing our province and our sport to the best of our abilities!
