A Message from Badminton Canada:

Hello Everyone,

At the 2014 AGM, Badminton Canada received two motions from Badminton New Brunswick regarding Champions Club fees, cost of participation at Junior Elite Events and revenue sharing of event registration fees. These motions prompted significant discussions the AGM which prompted the Badminton Canada Board to review our entire event fee structure.

Over the past several week the Badminton Canada Executive Committee has reviewed the financial results of our events as well as the financial reports received from our hosts and recommended the following changes to the entry fee structure to the Badminton Canada Board of Directors. The changes were approved Tuesday, July 15th for implementation for the 2014/15 season.

Champions Club

This refers to the $20 per person fee charged to each player directly by Badminton Canada. It does not refer to the $10 per competitive player collected by the P/Tso and submitted to Badminton Canada in March each year. This fee will remain in place for the 2014/15 season

After careful review of the Champions Club, Badminton Canada will be offering for the 2014/2015 season free membership to Badminton Canada Champions Club. Players will be required to sign-up for their free membership through the Badminton Canada Tournament Software website. When they register they will be given a unique identifier that they are required to use when registering for competitions.

Junior Elite Events

The entry fee for the Junior Elite Series will increase from $95 in 2013/2014 to $105 in 2014/15.

The new fee structure provides greater financial resources to the host while the Badminton Canada portion goes to offset lost revenue from Champions Club. It will also reduce the cost of a player who wants to only play in their local elite tournament from $115 ($95 entry fee + $20 Champions Club fee) to $105. The total increase in the cost for a player wanting to play all Junior Elite Events in 2014/2015 will be $40 for the season.

Senior Elite Series

The entry fee for the Senior Elite Series will increase from $95 in 2013/2014 to $115 in 2014/15.

Last year Badminton Canada lost almost $3500 in running the five Senior Elite events.  This new fee structure will generate a net profit to Badminton Canada of approximately $1000.

The new fee structure provides greater financial resources to the host while the Badminton Canada portion goes to offset lost revenue from Champions Club as well as recover our costs. There will be no change in the cost of a player who wants to only play in their local elite tournament. In 2013/14 they would have paid $115 ($95 entry fee + $20 Champions Club fee). In 2014/15 they pay $115. The total increase in the cost for a player wanting to play all Senior Elite Events in 2014/2015 will be $80 for the season.

Masters Championship

The entry fee for the Masters Championship will increase from $165 in 2013/2014 to $200 in 2014/15.

The new fee structure provides greater financial resources to the host while the Badminton Canada portion goes to offset lost revenue from Champions Club as well as recover our costs. The Canadian Masters Badminton Association recommended a $10 at their 2014 AGM. The cost per player for the championship will increase from $185 ($165 entry fee +$20 Champions Club fee) to $200 which is only $5 dollars more than what was suggested by The Canadian Masters Badminton Association.

Senior National Championship

The entry fee for the Senior National Championship will increase from $125 in 2013/2014 to $155 in 2014/15.

The new fee structure provides greater financial resources to the host while the Badminton Canada portion goes to offset lost revenue from Champions Club as well as recover our costs. In 2014 Badminton Canada lost almost $1800 running the event, under this new fee structure we will breakeven mark at 102 participants.

Junior National Championship

The entry fee for the Junior National Championship will increase from $95 in 2013/2014 to $105 in 2014/15.

The new fee structure provides greater financial resources to the host while the Badminton Canada portion goes to offset lost revenue from Champions Club as well as recover our costs.

University/College Championships

The entry fee for the University/College National Championship will increase from $100 in 2013/2014 to $125 in 2014/15.

The new fee structure provides greater financial resources to the host while the Badminton Canada portion goes to offset lost revenue from Champions Club as well as recover our costs.
